Brent Fogel MD, PhD

Dr. Fogel is currently a Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Human Genetics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Fogel’s research studies the molecular pathogenesis of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders. Clinically, Dr. Fogel directs the UCLA Neurogenetics Clinic where he uses genome-wide methods to identify rare and novel causes of neurodegenerative disease, particularly cerebellar ataxia, as well as various forms of leukodystrophy and spastic paraparesis. Dr. Fogel also directs the UCLA Clinical Neurogenomics Research Center, a department wide biobank and data repository connecting patients with neurological disease to ongoing molecular, cellular, and genetic research studies. He is also a member of the UCLA Ataxia Center and directs the Ataxia and Neurogenetics Biobank Program. He has authored many research and clinical articles, reviews, and book chapters on spinocerebellar ataxia, rare genetic disease, clinical neurogenetics, and neurodevelopmental disease. Dr. Fogel’s work has been funded by the American Academy of Neurology, the American Brain Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Ataxia Foundation.
